Jesaiah: Et tu, hope

28/09/09  ||  Smalley

Darn it, another band with a lousy name is asking GD to review their (also lamely-named) album! But, I kid Jesaiah; after all, Megadeth is a pretty dumb band name, but that hasn’t stopped them from making some kick-ass music in their career. Too bad Jesaiah’s no Megadeth; instead, they’re just really annoying, and really, all of that is due to their lame singer…

As far as I can tell (not that I know a lot about this kind of music), Jesaiah’s genre is hardcore, which I fucken hate; I don’t even like “good” hardcore like Hatebreed, so I sure as hell don’t enjoy these guys. Max Sjöblom, their aforementioned lame singer, uses this tense, hoarse, scream-o vocal style (imagine something like Corey from Slipknot, but even more annoying), along with the occasional, weak spoken-word part, and both styles just ain’t my bag, baby. He also does the occasional adequate growl here and there, but he utilizes the first two styles much, much more often, and worse, he almost never seems to shut up, either. It’s too bad, since a few of the riffs here were actually pretty decent, the drummer did a good job, and the songwriting certainly wasn’t the worst I’d ever heard (not that it was easy to concentrate on the songwriting next to the vocals) but the extremely annoying Sjöblom just wore me the hell down in the end. The fifth track was mercifully an instrumental, a calm little break from Max, but I just got dumped back into the swamp after that, so all I can say now is this was just another weak album we were told to review, if you have any sense, you’ll never bother listening to it, blahblahblahyou know the story, moving on already.
